Instruction videos

From this page, you’ll find video instructions for solving everyday issues in the apartment: replacing a fuse, cleaning the drains, setting up internet connection, changing a fluorescent lamp in the bathroom and instructions for the fire alarm. In case you’re unable to fix the issue by following these instructions, file a fault report to the service company here.

Fuse replacement

There are two types of fuse cabinets. Here are instructions to restore the automtic fuse and replace the plug fuse.

You can find the fuses in the electrical switchboard, which is often located in the vestibule of the apartment. No tools are required to open the electrical switchboard.

Automatic fuse restoration:

  • Automatic fuse switches to the OFF position when it blows. In case there is a reset button next to the switches, press it before flipping the switch back up. Otherwise, it is enough to just flip the switch back to ON position.

Replacing the plug fuse:

  • Turn off the power from the main switch before removing the fuse.
  • Check the fuse rating (amps, A) and location on the label and replace it with a new, similar fuse. You can easily disconnect the fuse by twisting it. Remove the old fuse, and replace it with a new one.
  • If the fuse immediately blows again, the issue is with a faulty device connected to a power socket.
Disconnect all electrical devices in the group. If the fuse still blows, file a fault report on our website.

Cleaning the sink drain

The tenant should clean the drain in the bathoom sink every 6 months, or as soon as it stops draining properly.

  • Place a water container under the bottle trap. Unscrew the bottle trap.
  • Clean the pipe from loose dirt and let water drain into the sink.
  • After cleaning, close the bottle trap. Make sure that there is no leakage.

If the issue continues, please file a fault report.

Cleaning the floor drain

The tenant should clean the floor drain in the bathoom every 6 months, or as soon as it stops draining properly.

  • Remove and clean the floor drain grate. If necessary, you can use a screwdriver or other tools to remove the grate.
  • Clean and remove all loose dirt from the drain. In case there is a removable plastic insert or odor trap, remove and wash it as well.
  • Rinse the floor drain with water and place the grate back in place.

If the issue continues, please file a fault report.

Setting up internet connection

VOAS apartments have one data box through which you can access the internet connection. You can connct your computer directly to the data box using a network cable or connect a router to set up a WiFi connection. The tenants must purchase a router and/or a network cable themselves (except in Sekahaku IV and Sekahaku V, where apartment-specific modems have been installed).

Setting up WiFi connection:

  • Plug the router’s power cord into a wall outlet.
  • Connect the internet cable to the data box. Please note, that you can only access the Internet connection through one of the ports.
  • Connect the power cord and the internet cable to the router.
  • The power light on the router indicates that the setup is now complete.
  • There are differences between different router models, so make sure to check the instruction manual of your own router as well.

Internet connection directly to your device:

  • If you don’t have a router, connect the network cable from the data box to the RJ45 port on the device.

In case there is a problem, try restarting the devices that are connected to the internet and check the connections. Make sure to also disconnect and reconnect the cables from the data box.

Replacing the fluorescent lamp and starter

Please note, that the tenant is responsible for the purchase, replacement and installation of fluorescent lamps and starters.

  • Remove the lamp cover by turing the edges.
  • Remove the old fluorescent lamp by turning it in the grooves. Remove the starter behind the lamp.
  • Screw in a new starter.
  • Place the new fluorescent lamp in the grooves and screw in place.
  • Finally, snap the light cover back into place.

Fire alarm

The tenant is responsible for the purchase, installation, maintenance and testing of a battery-operated fire alarm. The fire alarm should be tested monthly by pressing the test button.

Fire alarm battery replacement:

  • Unscrew the case cover counterclockwise.
  • Remove the old battery.
  • Insert a new battery into the fire alarm.
  • Screw the cover back on clockwise.
